About this converter

Nepal's official calendar is the Bikram Sambat (BS) — the date printed on citizenship certificates, land deeds (lalpurja), school leaving certificates, and most government forms — while passports, visas, and international paperwork use the Gregorian (AD) calendar. BS months don't run the same length as AD months (they vary from 29 to 32 days year to year), so a fixed day-count formula can't convert between the two. This tool uses the actual published day-count for every BS month from 2000 to 2099 (roughly 1943 to 2043 AD) instead of an approximation.

Why does the same BS date fall on a different AD date most years?

Because the Bikram Sambat calendar is adjusted every year to track the solar year, each BS month's length shifts slightly from year to year — unlike the Gregorian calendar, where every January always has 31 days.

Which Nepal government forms ask for a BS date?

Citizenship applications, driving licence renewal, land registration, bank KYC forms, and most ministry paperwork ask for your date of birth or document date in BS, not AD.

How far back or forward does this converter work?

It covers BS 2000 to BS 2099, roughly 14 April 1943 to 13 April 2043 in the Gregorian calendar.

About this converter

The Nepali Rupee (NPR) is pegged to the Indian Rupee (INR) at a fixed rate set by Nepal Rastra Bank — currently 1 INR = NPR 1.60 — so that rate never moves day to day. Rates for every other currency (USD, AED, SAR, JPY, and more) are pulled from a live foreign-exchange feed and refreshed every 6 hours, so the numbers here track the real market instead of a stale table.

Why is the NPR-INR rate always the same?

Nepal Rastra Bank has kept NPR pegged to INR at a fixed ratio since 1993 as part of Nepal's monetary policy — it's a fixed peg, not a floating market rate, so it won't move like USD or EUR does.

About this calculator

Whether gold or silver an air passenger brings back to Nepal is actually profitable to sell locally after paying customs duty depends on both the day's gold/silver price and the customs rate, which both change often. This tool uses FENEGOSIDA's (Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Associations) daily published price and subtracts the duty you'd actually pay to work out the real profit or loss.

Does raw gold/silver get a duty-free allowance?

No — raw gold/silver (bars, coins) gets no duty-free allowance and is effectively barred without Nepal Rastra Bank approval. The duty-free allowance only applies to jewellery.

How often does the price update?

FENEGOSIDA publishes a new price daily, and this tool pulls that same price fresh each time the page loads.

Land and weight in Nepal are still measured in traditional units that don't map cleanly onto the metric system — a ropani of land in the hills is a completely different size from a bigha in the Tarai, and jewellers weigh gold in tola, not grams. Nepali land records measure area in ropani-aana-paisa-daam (hills) or bigha-kattha-dhur (Tarai), not square metres — but a formal land survey needs expensive equipment most people don't have. This tool walks your phone's GPS around the boundary of a plot as you move, calculates the enclosed area from those GPS points, and converts it to both the traditional unit for your region and the metric equivalent.

Is this accurate enough to replace a licensed land survey?

No — phone GPS has a typical accuracy of a few metres, which is fine for a rough estimate but not for a legal land survey. For buying, selling, or registering land, you still need a licensed surveyor's measurement.

Why does the reading change if I stand still?

Phone GPS accuracy drifts by a few metres even while stationary, especially indoors or under tree cover — walking the full boundary slowly and keeping the phone outdoors with a clear sky view gives the most reliable result.
